Jon Favreau has revealed a tantalizing tidbit about his Star Wars live action TV show set to debut on the Disney Play streaming service.

According to Making Star Wars, a new rumor indicates the show’s first season will be eight episodes long and have five directors. Dave Filoni – best known to Star Wars fans for his role in producing the animated series Clone Wars and Rebels – will direct the pilot with Rogue One cinematographer Greig Fraser behind the camera. The site also reports Werner Herzog may have his own role in the series.

A second report from the site indicates Wonder Woman 1984 and Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal is currently in talks to play “a central lead.”

Favreau’s Instagram would place The Mandalorian in the 30-year space between Return of the Jedi (4 years after the Battle of Yavin) and The Force Awakens (34 years after the Battle of Yavin). The exact time which the First Order rose up has not been established.

Favreau has a deep connection with the Mandalorian race – he voiced the Mandalorian rogue Pre Vizsla in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. Darth Maul beheaded Vizsla in the episode “Shades of Reason” (S05 E15).

Finally, the site also says that cameras will apparently begin rolling on the series this week and has also unveiled a batch of set photos which appear to show some kind of Mos Eisley-style spaceport.

Disney has not announced a plan release date for The Mandalorian or the Disney Play service.

+ + + UPDATE + + + A new report from Discussing Film alleges that both Taika Waititi and Bryce Dallas Howard will not only direct episodes, but will play minor roles in the series, too. While there are no details on Howard’s character, Waititi is rumored to voice a droid.
