Sad news coming through from The Walking Dead developer Telltale Games as the decision has been made to close the studio after “a year marked by insurmountable challenges”.
Reports came through on Friday that the developer had laid off a significant portion of its staff, as many employees took to social media to announce they were no longer working for the studio.
Later, the developer released an official statement on Twitter confirming the news, writing that a small group of 25 employees would be staying on to fulfil the company’s existing obligations.

“We released some of our best content this year and received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, but ultimately, that did not translate to sales,” reads the statement.
The news comes as quite a surprise, as the studio is in the middle of releasing The Walking Dead: The Final Season and had recently announced The Wolf Among Us: Season 2. A collaboration with Netflix to create a Stranger Things series was also in development.
Melissa Hutchison, the voice actor behind Clementine in The Walking Dead, released the following emotional message on Twitter to address the closure.
Hello friends. I am so very deeply moved by the messages of love that I, and the folks from @telltalegames have been receiving. Yesterday was one of the toughest days ever. A lot of hearts were broken, including mine. Please read the attached. #TelltaleJobs #Clementine #TWD pic.twitter.com/Fb68z86j8e

Right now, the future of many projects is unclear. The Wolf Among Us and Stranger Things both appear to be cancelled, while there’s no guarantee we will see further episodes in The Walking Dead: The Final Season.
Nevertheless, our thoughts at this time are with the approximately 250 employees who have lost their jobs. All the best to them.
