Since the release of The Raid 2: Berandal back in 2014, fans have been waiting to see what will happen with police officer Rama (Iko Uwais). According to director Gareth Evans, part three is now unlikely to happen.

Back in 2015 at MCM London, Evans spoke about where he was with The Raid 3, saying, “I know roughly what the story would be, and how it would play out, but I’m purposefully not touching it yet. I want to take a break from martial arts films for a while, because I’ve done three in a row now. I want to be able to step away from it and then come back and feel like I’m doing it fresh.”

Since then Evans has written and directed his new film Apostle which is released on Netflix this October. While promoting Apostle at Fantastic Fest, talk turned to The Raid 3, with Evans revealing that he is now not so enthusiastic about working on a third instalment.

When speaking to SlashFilm, Evans said, “I just didn’t want to be doing The Raids all the time. And the more time has gone on from that, the less interested I’ve been to go back there. What we did with The Raid 2, we kinda close that off nicely, so it didn’t really appeal to me to jump back into that world again.”

When talking to CinemaBlend, Evans sounded more adamant on his decision, saying, “I think enough time has passed now that I think I’m not likely to go back and revisit it. We had a lot of fun making those films, and I think we came to a nice, sort of natural conclusion.”

While The Raid won’t make it as a trilogy, Evans is attached as an executive producer to a US ‘reimagining’ of the original film which is currently in the works, with Joe Carnahan as director and Frank Grillo to star.
