Steamforged Games has teamed up with video game developer Guerrilla Games to bring best-selling action RPG Horizon Zero Dawn to the tabletop.

The UK publisher behind Guild Ball and Dark Souls: The Board Game, Steamforged is kickstarting Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game as a semi co-operative tactical board game, with 1-4 players hunting robotic beasts and battling human bandits in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi world.

Due out in March 2020 and offering a single pledge tier of £100, Horizon Zero Dawn doesn’t come cheap, but backers certainly get a lot of plastic minis for their money. As well as the big box base game, the Limited Edition Seeker Pledge includes two expansions – The Lawless Badlands and The Sacred Land Expansion – plus a Kickstarter exclusive Aloy model and a host of stretch goals to give player more than 110 miniatures in total.

Incorporating strategic deck building and dice-based combat, the game sees players select a tribe and class for their hunter and embark on an adventure through the wilds, culminating in a big boss fight. However, if one hunter dies, it’s game over for everyone.

Horizon Zero Dawn also features a campaign system to tie individual hunts together, with players able to visit merchants after each successful encounter to upgrade their decks with new weapons, extra potions and improved ammunition. In addition, players will be able to level up between missions, gaining new abilities from their character’s unique skill tree.
