Sequel announced for live-action Tokyo Ghoul

The Tokyo Ghoul:re manga may have recently come to an end in July, but there are more ghouls on the way as it has been announced that there will be a sequel to the live action film Tokyo Ghoul.

As revealed on Natalie, Tokyo Ghoul 2 is set to be released in 2019 and will feature Masataka Kubota returning to reprise his role as Ken Kaneki. Gourmet ghoul Shuu Tsukiyama will also make an appearance in the sequel and will be played by Shota Matsuda.

The official website has also been revamped, with the film’s distributor, Shochiku, releasing a short teaser video.

Based on the hit manga series by Sui Ishida, the first film told of student Ken Kaneki (Kubota) and his transformation into a ghoul-human hybrid after surviving an attack by a disguised ghoul. Learning to adapt to his new life as a ghoul, Kaneki deals with his need to consume human flesh and evading ghoul hunters.

Tokyo Ghoul opened in Japan in July 2017 and went on to earn ¥1.06 billion ($9.5 million) at the Japanese box office.
