US distributor Right Stuf has launched a crowdfunding campaign to give the first season of anime drama Emma: A Victorian Romance an English language dub.

Right Stuf’s Nozomi Entertainment label is looking to raise $110,000 to create an English-dubbed Blu-ray of Studio Pierrot’s 2005 drama about an upstairs, downstairs romance in Victorian England. Adapted from an award-winning manga by Kaoru Mori, the 12-episode show follows the obstacle-strewn love story between hardworking young maid Emma and William, the eldest son of a wealthy family.

“We know that to dub a show set in Victorian England, the characters should sound authentically British, so our focus will be on casting voice talent with proper English accents,” said Nozomi Entertainment producer Judy Albert. The disc will also feature the original Japanese version of Emma with English subtitles.

According to Right Stuf, the Emma: A Victorian Romance Blu-ray will be for Region A – the region code for the Americas, Japan and Korea – although the Kickstarter does ship worldwide. At the time of writing, the campaign has reached around half its $110,000 goal; should pledges reach the $180,000 mark, Emma’s second season will also receive a dub.

The current campaign is Right Stuf’s second foray into crowdfunding, with last year seeing the company’s Nozomi Entertainment label run a successful Kickstarter to dub all three seasons of laid-back sci-fi show Aria The Animation.
