Karakuri Circus will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 11 October before airing on Japanese TV the next day, a new trailer for the Studio VOLN show has revealed. The promo video also previews the series’ opening theme song by Japanese alt. rockers Bump of Chicken.
Adapted from a manga by Kazuhiro Fujita, best known as the creator of Ushio and Tora, the 36-episode Karakuri Circus is an action mystery centred on Masaru Saiga (voiced by Chihiro Ueda), a youngster targeted by family members eager to get their hands on his huge inherited fortune.
Protecting Masaru from the titular karakuri – automated dolls – set on his trail are martial artist Narumi Katō (Bungō Stray Dogs’ Rikiya Koyama) and silver-haired puppetmaster Shirogane (Evangelion’s Megumi Hayashibara).
Karakuri Circus is directed by Ushio and Tora helmer Satoshi Nishimura, while Death Note screenwriter Toshiki Inoue and original manga author Kazuhiro Fujita handle the script, and Overlord’s Takahiro Yoshimatsu heads up character design.
