Franco-Japanese animated movie MFKZ is heading to UK cinemas next month, distributor Manga Entertainment has announced. Boasting a new English-language version, the stylish actioner – released internationally as Mutafukaz – will screen at select theatres on 11 October.
A collaboration between France’s Ankama Animation (Wakfu, Dofus) and Tokyo animation house Studio 4°C (Tekkonkinkreet, Mind Game), MFKZ follows young deadbeat Angelino, who begins to see monstrous forms prowling the mean streets of Dark Meat City after getting smashed up in a scooter accident. The 90-minute film is co-directed by Shōjirō Nishimi and Guillaume ‘Run’ Renard, whose comic book series it adapts.
“We’re working closely with multiple distributors to roll out a synchronised cinematic release across English speaking territories,” says Manga UK marketing manager Andrew Hewson. “It’s an amazingly creative and compelling project – a true mash-up of genres, influences and styles. We are really excited for audiences to see it!”
