Netflix has confirmed that Superman actor and owner of one infamously photoshopped moustache, Henry Cavill, will play Geralt of Rivia in the upcoming TV series based on The Witcher novels.
This is the first big casting news to come from the series, which Netflix has also confirmed will run for eight episodes in the debut season.
The latest blurb also reveals that Geralt will come into contact with a “powerful sorceress” and a “young princess with a dangerous secret”. We can only assume that the former will be Geralt’s long-term love interest Yennefer of Vengerberg, while the latter will be the pair’s adopted daughter, Ciri.
Outside of that, details of the upcoming series are still very thin. We know that Lauren Schmidt Hissrich of Daredevil and The Defenders fame will serve as showrunner. Meanwhile, Alik Sakharov (House of Cards, Game of Thrones), Garcia Lopez (Luke Cage, Utopia) and Charlotte Brändström (Outlander, Counterpart, Disparue) will share the director’s chair across the first season.
