Having covered cars earlier this year with a trio of Initial D movies, MVM Entertainment now turns its attention to two wheels with moe motorbike anime Bakuon!!. Out on Blu-ray and DVD, the 12-episode series from animation studio TMS stars schoolgirl Hane Sakura, who joins her new school’s motorcycle club after making friends with classmate Onsa.

Directed by Junji Nishimura (Glasslip, Simoun), Bakuon!!’s elevator pitch could be ‘K-On! on wheels’, with the 2016 show taking a light-hearted, slice-of-life approach to the adventures of cheery Hane and her five fellow club members – Suzuki fangirl Rin, tomboy Onsa, petite Chisame, sweet rich kid Hijiri and the permanently be-helmeted Raimu.

Meanwhile, this week sees Anime Limited get into airsoft with the DVD and Blu-ray release of Brain’s Base action comedy Aoharu x Machinegun. The series follows boyish-looking student council prez Hotaru, who storms into a host club to aid a fellow student and winds up not only getting into an airsoft duel with ladies’ man Masamune Matsuoka, but also forced to join his ‘survival game’ team. How long do you reckon it’ll take for Masamune and his hentai manga artist mate Tōru to realise that their latest recruit is actually a girl?

While it ain’t anime, we also want to give a shout-out to this week’s new DVD release from Manga Entertainment – the live-action JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable. Directed by the prolific Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Blade of the Immortal), the 2017 film adapts the fourth arc of Hirohiko Araki’s magnificently OTT manga series. Diamond is Unbreakable stars Kento Yamazaki as Jōsuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of Joseph Joestar, with Ryunosuke Kamiki as Kōichi Hirose and Nana Komatsu as Yukako Yamagishi.
