David Hayter returns to voice Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid tribute video

David Hayter, the voice of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid games – until Kiefer Sutherland nabbed the job for the fifth entry – has reprised his role as the legendary infiltrator in a video to celebrate the 31st anniversary of the series.

Spotted by Kotaku on the Vimeo channel of filmmaker Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who most recently directed Kong: Skull Island and is currently signed on to direct a movie adaptation of Metal Gear Solid, the tribute video begins with Hayter reeling off a few of Solid Snake’s most famous lines.

He then moves on to a series-fitting diatribe about the state of cinema today, before thanking all the fans who have supported the games and the film project.

When you think it’s all over, though, Revolver Ocelot also pops in to offer a non-update on the current status of the Metal Gear Solid film. Basically, there’s nothing new to say right now, but they will return “when there’s something new to report”.

Ocelot continues: “Until then, just know we’re trying to launch a movie that preserves everything you love about Metal Gear…and probably think is too weird for the masses.”

Sounds about right, to be honest.
