After a few lucky so-and-so’s got to see it at E3 earlier this year, CD Projekt RED has finally released the debut gameplay footage for their upcoming sci-fi RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. Settle in, the 50-minute walkthrough is ready to watch below.

There’s a lot to unpack in this first look at the game, which brings us on a tour of one of the playable character’s first jobs. There’s a chance to see everything: from the insane recreation of Night City to the clear Deus Ex influences and the solid-looking FPS combat.

Beginning with the first, Night City looks like a fascinating place to explore. We not only get to see the inner workings of the metropolis – its clubs, ripper dens and slums – but also the skyline at large as V and Jackie cruise between jobs. There are dense crowds and all sorts of side activities that just seem to be on the periphery.

Player choice is brought to the forefront too, not only in the way V can chat with friends, contacts and enemies but also in the way you can approach different challenges. Depending on how you’ve developed your skills you may be able to hack your way out of a situation or be forced to look for a different solution. Very immersive sim, ala Dishonored and Prey, indeed.

When the action gets underway, there’s your usual series of potshots fired from behind cover and the satisfying trickle of numbers emerging from enemies as you land hits. We also get to see a glimpse of V’s powers, including a time slow and dodge ability that lets her set up some brutal kills.

It all looks very, very exciting. Understandably, there’s a huge amount of anticipation for Cyberpunk 2077 following CD Projekt RED’s previous successes with The Witcher series. Here’s hoping it can live up to the hype.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. There’s currently no release date, but don’t expect it to arrive much before early 2020.
