It’s been a long wait for Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake and its reveal at E3 was definitely one of the highlights at the show. Capcom are also excited and confident about their upcoming release; so much so that they are planning more remakes and re-releases.

As reported on IGN, Capcom’s latest financial report Q&A summary mentions that they expect Resident Evil 2 “to be in the ‘million-seller’ class of titles.” They also added that they made the most of their “cutting-edge game development environment to re-create the content, and are developing it with a budget appropriate for a Resident Evil title.”

In looking to the future, Capcom then said, “Regarding remakes and rereleases of titles in our back catalog, we expect to explore these further with a variety of properties as a part of our strategy to utilize our library of IP.”

They do not mention any particular IP they are interested in exploring, however, depending on the success of the Resident Evil 2 remake, it could potentially mean a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Or, given the advances in online gaming, Resident Evil: Outbreak.

Capcom does have a vast catalogue and other titles worthy of bringing back include their other survival horror franchise Dino Crisis, side-scrolling beat-em-up Viewtiful Joe, and their arcade shoot-em-up Forgotten Worlds. But what would you want to see?

Capcom also noted how following the announcement of Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 at E3, they saw “signs of customers purchasing previous titles in these series.” This could be the effect of those new to the franchises wanting to pick up previous iterations before the latest instalment is released. It looks like Capcom plans to capitalise on this, saying, that they intend to “execute a number of marketing strategies to stimulate sales of these catalog titles in order to further build out the fan base of each series in the future.”
