MVM Entertainment sends us on a wild magical girl adventure this week with their Collector’s Edition Blu-ray of Flip Flappers, a yuri-flavoured show from Studio 3Hz (Princess Principal, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online). The 13-episode series opens with ordinary schoolgirl Cocona meeting the mysterious Papika – an energetic, orange-haired girl who introduces her to Flip Flap, an organisation that retrieves wish-granting gems from a fantastic alternate dimension called Pure Illusion.

Also out today from MVM are standard DVD and Blu-ray editions of Gate, a 24-episode fantasy series about Japanese soldiers in a world of swords ‘n’ sorcery – you can read what we thought of the show here.

Meanwhile, Manga Entertainment’s release slate for the week sees the arrival of Chinese animated adventure Big Fish & Begonia following its theatrical release earlier this year. Inspired by Chinese mythology, the critically-acclaimed feature tells the story of spirit girl Chun, who is transformed into a dolphin, and the human boy who rescues her at the cost of his own life.

Manga UK also gives us Pokémon Movie Collection 14-16 Black & White, a four-film DVD set featuring 2012’s Kyurem Vs. the Sword of Justice; 2013’s Genesect and the Legend Awakened and two different versions of the 14th Pokémon film: Black – Victini and Reshira and White – Victini and Zekrom.

Lastly, Anime Limited may not have any new anime hitting shelves this week, but we do want to flag up the live action Tokyo Ghoul film that’s out today on DVD and Blu-ray. Adapting Sui Ishida’s flesh-hungry horror manga, the movie stars Masataka Kubota (Light Yagami in the live action Death Note TV series) as protagonist Ken Kaneki and Fumika Shimizu as ghoul girl Tōka Kirishima.
