Warner Bros has released the new trailer for sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald during the film’s panel at San Diego Comic Con.

The dark wizard Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), only to escape custody and set about gathering followers, with plans to raise pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to stop Grindelwald, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.

The trailer begins at Hogwarts, with Dumbledore teaching a young Newt. Given the title, there is also no shortage of ‘fantastic beasts’. The trailer also features Nicolas Flamel (Brontis Jodorowsky), the alchemist who created the Philosopher’s Stone, as well as glimpses of the Mirror of Erised and the Elder Wand.

The film features the return of Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski and Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone. The cast also includes Zoë Kravitz as Leta Lestrange, Callum Turner as Theseus Scamander and Carmen Ejogo as Seraphina Picquery.

Written by J.K. Rowling and directed by David Yates, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald opens in the UK and US on 16 November 2018.
