If you’re suffering from Stranger Things withdrawal and can’t wait for the next season (you know, there is a game and comic series on the way too), then Summer of 84 might be the fix you need, with Gunpowder & Sky releasing the full trailer for the film.

It’s the summer of 1984, the perfect time for teens to be enjoying themsevles, only the local news is reporting on the Cape May Killer and that a spate of children are suddenly missing. Davey Armstrong (Graham Verchere) convinces his friends to investigate. However, their findings lead them to believe that the serial killer on the loose might be their neighbour, Wayne Mackey (Rich Sommer), who also happens to be a police officer.

As well as the obvious Stranger Things and It vibe, the film is a mash-up of actual 80s movies, such as The Goonies, The Monster Squad, and Fright Night.

From the directing trio RKSS (Anouk Whissell, François Simard and Yoann-Karl Whissell – responsible for Turbo Kid), they revealed that they started work on the film back in 2015, before the resurgence of 1980s nostalgia in popular culture. The popularity of Stranger Things only helped the film, proving that there is an audience for this.

Written by Matt Leslie and Stephen J. Smith it also stars Judah Lewis, Caleb Emery, Cory Gruter-Andrew and Tiera Skovbye.

Summer of 84 initially premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier in the year. It is set to open in the US on 10 August 2018 and arrives On Demand from 24 August 2018.
