The man behind Moon and the recent Mute, both epic indie sci-fi smash-hits –  just tweeted this…

To say we’re excited would be an understatement. Here at MyM, we’ve long believed 2000AD is the next big expanded universe that can take on the might of Marvel. If done properly.

OK, so did you catch it? After zeroing in on the UK and a specific universe, 2000AD, Jones removes his hat to reveal… a blue mohawk. Look familiar? It’s a blue mohawk of a Genetic Infantryman, or GI, from the Rogue Trooper stories.

It follows the story of one particular blue-skinned supersoldier, nicknamed Rogue, during a future war on a planet called Nu-Earth between two armies, the Norts and Southers. It’s a gritty, toxic war that’s a particularly nasty blend of both World Wars and the American Civil War. The planet has become so poisoned that soldiers from both armies have to wear chemical suits to survive – except Rogue, who has been genetically engineered to be able to survive in the deadly environment.

In the origins of the comic, Rogue and his three buddies are hunting the Traitor General, a dangerous Souther who massacred his entire regiment.

This certainly represents a challenge for Jones, but with his proven ability, we’re convinced he’s the right man for the job.
