Dark Horse Comics have announced that they have licensed Lynn Okamoto’s manga Elfen Lied, which will be released in English for the first time. Dark Horse made the announcement at Anime Expo, as reported by Anime News Network.

The story tells of Lucy, who washes up on shore having just escaped from a military facility built for experimentation, leaving a trail of death and destruction behind her. Unable to communicate, scared and alone, she is found and given shelter by two locals, Kouta and his cousin Yuka. However, they soon find themselves learning about her dark secret, as a Special Assault Team make numerous attempts to bring her back.

Okamoto’s manga originally ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump from 2002 to 2005. While it saw translations and a release in Germany, Italy, Portugal, Mexico, and Taiwan, the manga had never officially been released in English. Many will have come across Elfen Lied via the anime adaptation that was produced by Arms and ran for 13 episodes. It was released on DVD in the US and Europe by ADV Films in 2005.

The manga will be released as special omnibus editions, compiling three volumes in one. The first is expected to arrive on 22 May 2019.
