First teaser for Suspiria remake

The first bit of footage from director Luca Guadagnino’s remake of Dario Argento’s 1977 film, Suspiria, was originally screened at CinemaCon back in April, which caused some viewers to turn away. Now Amazon Studios has released a teaser trailer and everyone can get an idea of what all the fuss is about.

Darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, as ambitious young dancer Susie (Dakota Johnson) discovers something evil lurking within.

Rather than another round of extreme Technicolor meshed with a Goblin soundtrack (because what would be the point if Guadagnino didn’t bring anything new?), the teaser actually dispenses with dialogue and gore (though there is some blood). It instead sets the mood with a dour score and a montage of clips, each one more disturbing than the last.

The teaser also offers numerous clues, such as maggots, a hook, a poster, a noticeboard and the most obvious being that notebook. The soundtrack to the film (and most likely what we’re hearing in the teaser) is by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.

Scripted by David Kajganich, the remake also stars Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, Lutz Ebersdorf, Chloë Grace Moretz and the star of the original film Jessica Harper.

While there is currently no UK release date, Suspiria is scheduled for release in the US on 2 November 2018.
