With so many releases happening each week, we have split our weekly review into two articles to make things more convenient. Our Weekly K-music Review posts are here to give you a helping hand and a quick look back at the notable releases from Korean artists in a weekly format. This article looks at releases and comebacks from 4 – 6  June 2018.

Wanna One – Light
Released: 4 June

With great visuals in their music video, the artistic solo shots certainly give their fans something to scream about. But in terms of song release, they have taken a very safe approach without changing their style or trying to create something we haven’t heard before. Try not to get the wrong idea, the song is catchy and has all the elements of a Wanna One K-pop song, but it would be nice to see the group grow beyond their moulding and hit new heights.

Pirate Kim – Misfit
Released: 4 June

Possibly the Kanye West of Korea, this song breaks the standards of Korean rap by bringing the underground scene to mainstream whilst expressing deep thoughts and a very strong message. The music video is simple but features some great post editing scenes. Possibly not a song for those who have a calmer outlook on life, but definitely one to listen to for those more angry times of your life.

Fromis_9 – DKDK
Released: 5 June

As a rookie girl group, Fromis_9 are making leaps and bounds in popularity with their cute kitty antics in their new song DKDK. Creating a mystical summertime feeling, full of adventure and fun, the members look like they are having a great time tormenting each other whilst on the search for kitties. The song is upbeat, catchy and has a great chorus.

Yubin – Lady
Released: 5 June

Bringing back that retro glow, and late 70s/80s styling, Yubin brings a whole new meaning to retro chic. Mixing modern day choreography, strong vocals and bright flashing neon lights, the music video is like a step back in time. The song also creates that plastic fantastic feeling. Completely different to the songs released at the moment, Lady is really fresh in its own way and is a super fun one to listen to this summer.

Katie – Remember
Released: 6 June

Still reeling from listening to this song for the first time, and listening to it over and over, you realise just how beautiful the music video is and also how talented and skilled Katie really is. Absolutely stunning and truly powerful. If you want a great song to represent your June month, then this is it. Not to mention the song is sung entirely in English.

VIXX – Is It Love
Released: 6 June

Sharing their voices for the new drama Are You Human? VIXX leaves their fans swooning with their upbeat love song. The music video features key points from the new drama and allows you to focus on each member’s vocals. As a group, VIXX have been growing in strength, but recently they have been quiet, so it’s really good to see them hitting the charts once again.
