Netflix has released the first teaser for Matt Groening’s upcoming fairytale series Disenchantment.

Set in the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, Disenchantment follows the hard-drinking young princess Bean (Abbi Jacobson), her feisty elf companion Elfo (Nat Faxon), and her personal demon Luci (Eric Andre). During their misadventures, they encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.

According to Groening, the series might not be quite so family friendly, as it will explore “life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots.”

Featured in the teaser is the voice of John DiMaggio, who revealed at MCM London Comic Con in May that he voices the king of Dreamland. He praised Groening and was excited about the show, saying, “You’ll see it, it’s really, really funny.” DiMaggio also described it as “if The Simpsons fornicated with Game of Thrones. It’s fantastic. It’s right on time, it’s just arrived at the perfect time.”

Netflix originally ordered 20 episodes, with a second season on the way in 2019.

The series also stars the vocal talents of Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding and Lucy Montgomery.

Disenchantment premieres on Netflix on 17 August 2018.
