As well as a third season of Stranger Things, fans will also be getting a new game from Telltale, a series of companion books, and now it has been announced by Dark Horse Comics that there will be a comic book series too.

Dark Horse made the announcement via Entertainment Weekly, where they revealed that they will be publishing in partnership with Netflix a line of comics and graphic novels that expands upon the world of Hawkins, Indiana. The first issue will follow Will Byers, who in the first season of the series entered the Upside Down. The comic will show what we never really saw during his time in the other dimension, where he is hunted by the Demogorgon.

The first instalment of the comic series is written by Jody Houser, illustrated by Stefano Martino, inked by Keith Champagne, coloured by Lauren Affe and lettered Nate Piekos.

The cover art of Stranger Things #1 is by artist Aleksi Briclot. “I’ve kept the painterly style of the movie posters from the 80´s as well as the color scheme of the promotional visuals of season 1,” said Aleksi on Instagram. “I’ve quoted another famous (and brilliant) horror movie poster that is also an Easter egg in the serie. [sic]”

Dark Horse also revealed three variant covers, one from Rafael Albuquerque, one from visual artist Kyle Lambert, and a photo-variant cover by Patrick Satterfield and Netflix.

“Dark Horse is known for championing stories and storytellers,” said Dark Horse President and Founder Mike Richardson. “We are so excited to work with Netflix to bring the world of Stranger Things to comics.”

Stranger Things #1 arrives on 26 September 2018.
