It’s here at last: our first look at Cyberpunk 2077, the next RPG from The Witcher creators CD Projekt RED. And it looks astounding. Soak it all in below:

Cor, it’s a bit good. The seedy streets of Night City look like a delightful playground to stomp around in, as decadent futurism clashes with all the dirt and the grime. Main character ‘V’ looks like The Coolest Dude Ever too, especially with that jacket and car combo. Yet, while we can pick up some things about how the game might play, it’s all very much atmosphere and mood in a 100-second blast. And that soundtrack!

However, some lucky so-and-sos have been able to watch an hour’s worth of live hands-off gameplay at E3 and the reports are very strong. Switching up from The Witcher series, Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person RPG in a similar vein to Deus Ex. You’ll be able to freely explore a number of different sectors in Night City, with dialogue and cutscenes switching to the third person to better show off your character.

In terms of character creation, V can be male or female and you’ll be able to fully customise his or her appearance. Both genders will be fully voiced too. The game also features a number of different character classes – such as Techie, Netrunner or Solo – but CD Projekt has said that things are more flexible than that suggests.

As befitting the style and setting of Cyberpunk 2077, you’ll be chuffing on all manner of pharmaceuticals in order to boost your abilities temporarily. You’ll also have access to all sorts of invasive hacking skills to cause a bit of extra chaos to everyone’s cybernetic upgrades.

It really sounds like there’s a vast amount to digest, but to break it down in the simplest terms: new narrative-driven open-world sci-fi RPG from the makers of The Witcher series. Sold.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC at some point in the future. To put a safe estimate on it, don’t expect it before 2020.
