Viz Media is to release a craft book showing you how to create an array of cute crocheted San-X characters, the US publisher has announced.

Launching on 10 July, Eriko Teranishi’s Amigurumi: San-X Crochet Patterns features full colour guides to making a range of kawaii stuffed animals designed by Japanese stationery company San-X, including Rilakkuma, Tarepanda and the Sumikko Gurashi characters.

A portmanteau of the Japanese words ami (‘crocheted’ or ‘knitted’) and nuigurumi (‘stuffed doll’), amigurumi have become increasingly popular in the West since the turn of the millennium, especially on online craft marketplaces such as Etsy.

“Amigurumi: San-X Crochet Patterns is the first of our new Japanese craft books,” said Viz Media senior editor Nancy Thistlethwaite. “We’re bringing you English editions of the cute Japanese patterns that have been difficult to obtain here. This book is filled with super cute amigurumi of San-X characters.”
