The debut teaser trailer for Okko’s Inn is now available, giving us a first look at Studio Madhouse and DLE’s upcoming anime film. Based on Hiroko Reijo’s The Young Innkeeper Is a Grade Schooler! series of children’s novels, Okko’s Inn opens in Japanese cinemas in September, although it will also be screened at France’s Annecy Festival this June.

Directed by Kitaro Kosaka (Nasu: Summer in Andalusia), Okko’s Inn tells the story of schoolgirl Seki ‘Okko’ Oriko (voiced by Seiran Kobayashi), who goes to live at her grandmother’s traditional inn after losing her parents in a car accident. When not in class, Okko helps run the inn… and gets to know the establishment’s resident spirits, including ghost boy Uri-Bo (voiced by Satsumi Matsuda).

Okko’s Inn is one of the two anime movies in competition at June’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival, showing alongside Mamorou Hosoda’s Mirai of the Future. Other anime films screening at Annecy this year include Mari Okada’s directorial debut Maquia and Naoko Yamada’s Sound! Euphonium spin-off Liz and the Blue Bird. DLE and Madhouse’s anime series also based on Hiroko Reijo’s novels is currently airing on Japanese television.
