April saw SNK announce that they would mark their 40th anniversary with the release of a new console. After pictures were leaked online, SNK has now officially announced via PRTimes that the new console is a Neo Geo Mini.

The look of the console is based on the Neo Geo MVS arcade machine and there will be two versions, one for the Japanese market and another for the international market (the US and Europe). Weighing just 600g, the Neo Geo Mini measures 13.5cm wide, 16.2 cm high and 10.8cm deep.

With a 3.5 inch LCD screen, it has its own built-in joystick and buttons, but also two controller ports on either side of the console. On the back there is an HDMI port to connect to your TV, an AV/AUX out where you can connect your headphones, and there is a DC in. It will come with a power supply cable, but no AC adapter.

It will include 40 games, however, the full list has not been revealed. Going by what’s pictured on the console, we can expect Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Real Bout Fatal Fury, Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers, Samurai Shodown II, Samurai Shodown V Special, The King of Fighters 97 and The King of Fighters 98. It’s also possible that the line up of games could differ between the Japanese version and the international version.

SNK will reveal a release date and pricing details in the future.
