New Switch Pokémon games confirmed for later this year

Just two weeks ago we got excited about a pair of potential new Pokémon games coming to Nintendo Switch if a series of leaks were to be believed. Well, it turns out that whoever had loose lips was spilling some truth as Nintendo has just announced Pokémon Let’s Go! Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go! Eevee will be released on November 16th, 2018.

Much like the leaks a fortnight ago suggested, both games allow you to explore the Kanto region with either Pikachu or Eevee at your side, catching Pokémon and battling trainers either alone or with a co-op buddy.

There’s some significant integration with mobile hit Pokémon Go too. You’ll be able to connect both games together and share Pokémon across your Switch and mobile. You’ll even be able to send Pokémon as gifts to fellow players.

That said, it doesn’t look like Pokémon Let’s Go! will be a full adventure as with any of the mainline games. Instead, it’ll serve as a comfortable middle ground to tide you over until the release of a traditional “core RPG” that is due for release “in the second half of 2019”, according to Nintendo.

Lastly, if you can’t wait that long for either game, a new spin-off called Pokémon Quest is available right now on Nintendo Switch and will launch on mobile this June. The game is a “free-to-start” RPG (meaning there will be some payment needed somewhere down the line) that sends you to the blocky world of Tumblecube Island. You’ll fight, explore and train your Pokémon there while building up a home base to thrive in.
