Viz announced on Twitter, that they have acquired the licence to release the English translation of Jun Eishima’s NieR: Automata novels.
Initially published in Japan in 2017 by Square Enix, NieR: Automata: Long Story Short (Vol.1) is based on the action-adventure epic game developed by PlatinumGames and released on the PlayStation 4. When alien forces invade with an army of Machines, the remnants of humanity must depend upon Androids of their own design to survive. Specifically, the placid 2B and the excitable 9S. The novel features a few additional story elements for the characters Adam and Eve and A2, Vol.1 is set to be released in October 2018.
NieR: Automata: Short Story Long (Vol.2) is written by Jun Eishima and the game’s creator Yoko Taro and presents a collection of short stories. Notably new stories Emil’s Recollection, which tells the events of the game from his point of view; and YoRHa Ver. 1.05, a novelisation of the YoRHa stage play that leads up to the events of NieR: Automata. Vol.2 is scheduled to follow in spring 2019. Both novels feature illustrations by Itahana Toshiyuki.
