We’ll kick off this week’s releases with the latest entry in the ever-growing Fate franchise – Fate/Grand Order: First Order. Hitting shelves on DVD and Blu-ray courtesy of MVM, First Order is a feature length TV special based on free-to play mobile game Fate/Grand Order.

First Order adapts the opening portion of the game, with the Chaldea Security Organisation launching a Holy Grail Expedition in a bid to save humanity from extinction. Directed by Hitoshi Nanba, the chap behind new series Golden Kamuy, the movie focuses on game protagonist Ritsuka Fujimaru and his Demi-Servant companion Mash Kyrielight, a human fused with a Heroic Spirit.

Stepping up to the plate next is Manga UK, releasing a double bill of DBZ TV specials under its own name and an Ushio and Tora DVD collection under that of sister label Animatsu. Packaged as a Blu ray/DVD combi, the snappily-titled Dragon Ball Z The TV Specials Double Feature: The History of Trunks/Bardock the Father of Goku features digitally-remastered versions of the two films, which date from 1993 and 1990 respectively.

Meanwhile, the 39-episode Ushio and Tora follows the adventures of middle school student Ushio Aotsuki and his best frenemy, tiger-like yokai Tora. Having freed Tora from half a millennia’s captivity beneath a temple (and narrowly avoided being eaten by him), Ushio teams up with the belligerent beast, battling against a bevy of spirits from Japanese folklore. We reviewed Ushio and Tora’s Blu-ray incarnation back in December.

Anime Limited also has two new releases this week – Assassination Classroom Season 2, Part 2 and Persona 3: Movie #2 Midsummer Knight’s Dream. Available both as a standard DVD and a Blu-ray Collector’s Edition, the latest instalment of Assassination Classroom also provide its finale, revealing the truth behind Class 3-E’s enigmatic teacher. We’ve also taken a closer look at Midsummer Knight’s Dream, the second in A-1 Pictures’ four-part film adaptation of hit JRPG Persona 3. Lighter in tone than the angsty opener, the movie whisks Yuki and his Shadow-hunting pals off to the beach (a beach or hot springs episode being mandatory under anime law) where they first meet robot girl Aigis.
