2018 marks 45 years since Nestlé Japan first released Kit Kat in Japan. Over the years it has since become one of the country’s biggest chocolate brands, helped largely by the numerous different flavours that have been produced. Such is the demand that there are even a number of Kit Kat Chocolatary stores across Japan. Nestlé is celebrating this anniversary by giving you the opportunity to put forward your ideas and vote for a new flavour of Kit Kat that will be released worldwide.

There have been over 350 different flavours of the wafer chocolate, ranging from the simple fruity types like raspberry, strawberry and apple. Then there are the slightly more unusual flavours, such as wasabi, sake, sweet potato, and baked varieties. There have even been Kit Kat’s featuring mascots such as Kumamon and Rilakkuma. More recently Nestlé collaborated with Barry Callebaut to release a whole new type of chocolate – ruby chocolate.

Now, Nestlé Japan has launched a New Flavor World Summit Worldwide Election campaign. You have until 8 April 2018 to visit Nestlé and submit your suggestions for a new flavour as well as voting for other ideas that you like the sound of. Some of the flavours that have already been put forward include Thai Iced Tea, Jalapeño, Cotton Candy, Stroopwafel and Indomie Goreng (Stir Fry Instant Noodles).

A list of 20 flavours will be finalised and a second round of voting will take place from 20 – 27 April 2018, where you will be able to cast your vote for the new Kit Kat flavour you would like to see. The winning flavour will be released around the world later this year in November.
