2018 will make for 40 years that SNK has been in business and on Twitter they announced that they will mark this anniversary with the release of a new console.

As revealed on Gematsu, SNK tweeted, “It is with gratitude towards the fans who have supported SNK’s titles, including The King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown, and Metal Slug, that we introduce a new game machine that compiles the popular titles of Neo Geo!”

The tweet also included a teaser image of a black sheet draped over what is believed to be their new console. The sheet also has the words Neo Geo on it.

There is no mention as to what the name of this new console is, nor when SNK intend to reveal more details. There was also no mention as to what games will come with the console (though some of the titles from the gaming franchises mentioned in their tweet are certain to be included). Responses to the tweet have caused some to speculate that SNK are to announce the reveal of a Neo Geo Mini.

SNK’s Neo Geo AES was released in the early 1990s and the powerful console was the equivalent of having an arcade machine in your home. However, it came at a hefty cost. In the UK, the console retailed for around £300 while the games would come on huge cartridges that would cost anywhere between £70 to £150.

SNK’s last foray with the Neo Geo legacy was in 2012, with the release of the Neo Geo X, a handheld console that came with 20 built-in games.
