Ahead of 20th Century Fox’s CinemaCon presentation today, the studio has provided us with a look at new synopses and story details for some of the upcoming films on their slate, including Shane Black‘s anticipated actioner, The Predator, which just dropped its first official synopsis today…and well, read it for yourself…

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

“Genetically upgraded themselves”..?! Holy cow…

Last December, Jake Busey spoke to to Pop Culture and revealed a little bit about the focus of the film and it seems this one reveals what the aliens are after on earth, saying:

“This one definitely falls in line with the original franchise in that it does focus on the technology that the Predators have. It focuses on what the goal of the Predators is, and what their modus operandi, and why they come to the planet, and that type of thing. It’s definitely in line with the original franchise.”

Then just a few weeks ago, it became known that The Predator recently underwent some reshoots, which were teased on social media by a few cast members and Black himself. And co-star Keegan-Michael Key has provided some details on those reshoots, revealing that they actually reworked the film’s third act quite heavily.

Speaking with Cinemablend, Key talked about the reshoots and the brilliance of Black:

“We just finished [reshoots] last week, and just about three-quarters of the third act was rewritten. And Shane Black is… he’s just a consummate professional, and a consummate writer. He’s a wordsmith! It was a really, really exhilarating experience, and I think that he’s still one of our most vibrant writers of cinema.”

We know the 20th Century Fox film is going to be R-rated and Black has teased a commercial-type film, so it’s nice to hear that the reshoots went smoothly.

We’re due to get a first look at the film via a trailer soon, probably next month attached to Deadpool 2, so we’ll have a better idea of what to expect then. For now, that September 14th release date can’t get here any sooner.

Written by Fred Dekker and Shane Black, it stars Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, and Yvonne Strahovski, The Predator opens September 14th.
