Since 2004, Dove’s Self-Esteem Project has been helping young people build positive body confidence. Now they have joined together with Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe to educate people with self-esteem issues using the characters on the show.

It was revealed by Cartoon Network that there will be six short films released over the next two years, directed by Steven Universe creator Rebecca Sugar. Each one will tackle certain topics that have an impact on a young person’s body confidence. An original song featuring the cast of the show and an educational eBook will also be released later this year.

“My team and I take great care with Steven Universe to reflect real issues that affect our audience,” said Rebecca Sugar, the creator of Steven Universe. “I’m grateful that I will have access to a plethora of research on body image and mental health thanks to this partnership with the Dove Self-Esteem Project. This is an issue I have struggled with personally and I hope this will be a chance to amplify positive messages about self-awareness and acceptance.”

The first episode initially premiered via Cartoon Network and focuses on appearance-related teasing and bullying. It features the characters Amethyst and Jasper talking to camera about hurtful comments and how to deal with them. Given Jasper’s aggressive personality she trashes the set that they’re working on, while Amethyst delivers a clever pun on pressure.
