It’s safe to say that, with the exception of Blade Runner 2049, an upcoming movie release has not made us as nervous as we currently are about Bohemian Rhapsody.

Oh dear Lord, this movie has the potential to be one of the greatest films ever made…it is, after all, about one of the greatest bands of all time. The musical scenes look like they will rock certainly and Rami Malek looks the part, without a doubt…but will the story hold together, have the creative differences been resolved..?

Fox re-hired Dexter “Soap” Fletcher as the new director of the Queen biopic, replacing the fired Bryan Singer back in December. Fletcher had left the project already in March 2014 after only three months, citing creative differences. Malek – who firmly established himself in The Pacific and Mr Robot – took on the mighty challenge of playing Freddy Mercury after Sacha Baron Cohen bailed from the project, citing creative differences with the remaining members of the band.

Cohen talks about the experience on the Howard Stern show…

According to reports from CinemaCon, the film will tell Mercury’s story through the 1970s, when he joined the band and help them achieve international success with that titular hit in 1975, before following through the next 10 years up to the Live Aid show at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 13th July, 1985.

Malek tells an interesting yarn about the experience to Stephen Colbert on The Late Show just a few weeks ago…

And Fox released a few pics on its Instagram account yesterday.

Left to right: Gwilym Lee (Brian May), Ben Hardy (Roger Taylor), Rami Malek (Freddie Mercury), and Joe Mazzello (John Deacon).

And this image of Malek striking an iconic pose from Live Aid from the next issue of Empire…

You can find Queen’s amazing Live Aid 25-minute set-of-sorts on YouTube, but there’s a good one here.

Reportedly, footage of two song performances was shown at CinemaCon, “We Are The Champions” and of course “Bohemian Rhapsody”. As for the rest of us, we have to wait until a trailer emerges.

Bohemian Rhapsody is set to hit theatres November 2nd…so it looks like the producers have award season in their minds.
