The vastly under-rated Sicario was a modest hit at best, taking $84 million worldwide against a $30 million budget. If you haven’t seen it yet, go and watch it, right now. Stop reading this story and just go and watch it. If you didn’t already know, it’s directed by Denis Villeneuve, the man who gave us the amazing Blade Runner sequel last year.

Despite it’s average earnings, talk of a sequel started during the film’s theatrical run and now that talk has turned into reality. The follow-up, which will be titled Soldado, is on the way, and once again stars Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro. Joining them are Catherine Keener, Isabela Moner and Matthew Modine.

Last December, we had our first glimpse of what to expect from the sequel…and now we have a little more…

The sequel sees Stefano Sollima (Gomorrah) stepping behind the camera as director with original screenwriter Taylor Sheridan — who also wrote Hell or High Water and helmed last year’s Wind River – returning to pen the script.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“In Sicario: Day of the Soldado, the drug war on the US – Mexico border has escalated as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border. To fight the war, federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) reteams with the mercurial Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro).”

Sicario: Day of the Soldado opens in theaters on June 29, 2018.
