The list of nominees for the BAFTA Games Awards in 2018 has been released, with cinematic dino-mech shooter Horizon Zero Dawn and dark psychological adventure Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice receiving the most nods.

With a total of nine nominations in categories such as Narrative, Audio Achievement and the coveted Best Game award, it’s an impressive showing for Hellblade. A relatively small-scale release from British developers Ninja Theory, who previously worked on Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and Devil May Cry‘s terrific punk reboot of DmC, it offered a harrowing look at the psychosis suffered by 8th century Pict warrior, Senua.

Meanwhile, Guerilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn has picked up eight nominations across the likes of Artistic Achievement, Music and Best Game. Ashly Burch has also been given a well-deserved nom for her performance as the game’s protagonist, Aloy.

The full list also includes expected shout-outs for What Remains of Edith Finch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. We’re especially happy to see off-beat coming-of-age drama Night in the Woods up for the Narrative award, as well as Nier: Automata‘s two nods in Game Innovation and Game Design. Exactly how the latter has missed out on a nomination for its phenomenal soundtrack, however, is beyond us.

The 2018 BAFTA Games Awards will be held on April 12th in London. Comedian Dara O’Briain will return once again as host.
