Hold on, there have been ELEVEN main line Dragon Quest games? Oof. Not many series manage to make it to their eleventh entry. Must mean the RPG hit been doing something right over the years.

However it’s still going, Square Enix has just announced that Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be released for PS4 and PC on September 4th.

The blurb for this entry is monumentally vague: something to do with the game’s hero having to “uncover the mystery of his fate”. Spooky. He’ll be joined by a weird and wonderful cast of support characters as they go on a vast journey across the world to solve that mysterious logline.

The trailer below goes into some more details, giving us a first look at the game’s turn-based combat, exploration and story. There are intense cutscenes, nightmarish frog creatures and a whole lot of horses. Some might get a bit of a Breath of the Wild vibe from the video, though it’ll be tough to match Nintendo’s recent masterpiece.

Here are some final bullet points you might like to know. The game boasts over 100 hours worth of play time through a hoard of side-quests and mini-games. The western release will include features not seen in the Japanese version such as an English voiceover, hard mode and gameplay enhancements. Series creator Yuji Horii is on board, along with character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama.

Lastly, a Switch version of the game is also in development, though still a long way off.
