Danny Boyle confirms he’s directing Daniel Craig’s final Bond movie

Just a few weeks ago we reported that Danny Boyle was supposedly the top choice to direct the next Bond movie. With its late 2019 release date looming ever closer, the latest film was still without a director.

However, yesterday, Boyle addressed the rumors in a brief, red carpet interview with the US media where he mentioned that he’s currently in the process of developing a script along with Trainspotting’s John Hodge penned by Richard Curtis:

“We are working on a script right now. And it all depends on that really. I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year. But we are working on them both right now.

We’ve got an idea, John Hodge, the screenwriter, and I have got this idea, and John is writing it at the moment. And it all depends on how it turns out. It would be foolish of me to give any of it away.”

Boyle was in high spirits but he didn’t give anything away about the details. His belief that the movie should wrap shooting by year’s end suggests that the production’s is moving along and we can expect it to hit its current release date.

Boyle has given us nothing except high-quality, incredibly entertaining and enthralling movies, from Shallow Grave (1994) to Trainspotting (1996) to The Beach (2000) to 28 Days Later (2002).

Last July, the 25th Bond film was given a release date of November 8, 2019. At that time, it wasn’t even certain if star Daniel Craig would return or who would be handling distribution in the US.

Back in October 2015 in the now infamous Time Out interview, he said that, having just finished making Spectre, “I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists” than do it again. Also that “all I want to do is move on,” “I just don’t want to think about it. I don’t know what the next step is,” and “if I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”

At about the same time, while promoting Skyfall, Craig confirmed on the Graham Norton Show how badly injured he has been as a result of making the Bond movies, including having his right shoulder reconstructed, both knees operated on plus a sore thumb.

There’s also no word or no pictures of Daniel Craig since his appearance at the BAFTAs a few weeks ago.

Observers took to Twitter to comment on how peculiar he looked.

Has he had a bad facelift? Gone the way of Lesley Ash? Bit too much botox..? Good grief, hopefully not. It just was not necessary, but there’s no denying…it does look like he has. We’ll find out soon enough.

Fans are also hoping that perhaps the “codename theory” will be addressed in this next movie. Every since George Lazenby, the first replacement Bond, said “This never happened to the other fellow” in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, there has been a theory among Bond fans that perhaps James Bond isn’t a guy, but rather a code name assigned all the 007 agents. There’s some compelling arguments online, a simple Google search will yield plenty to chose from, this was one of the more interesting ones.
