Batman: The Enemy Within season finale offers “two completely distinct storylines”

Same Stitch, the fifth and final episode of Telltale’s Batman: The Enemy Within, will be released on March 27th and offer two “unique finales”.

We’re used to Telltale’s brand of choose-your-own-adventure games telling us that our choices can affect the outcome of the story, but this usually means only small diversions from the path while the main drive of the narrative stays the same.

For the Same Stitch, however, Telltale has written two completely distinct storylines that will play out depending on how you’ve developed your Bruce’s relationship with John Doe over the course of the season. Will he turn into the crazed villain we all know as The Joker, or will your decisions spur him to become a ruthless vigilante the likes of which we’ve never seen before? The possibilities actually sound fascinating.

As if to drive the point home, Telltale says that this is their “branchiest episode ever” with over 4500 lines of dialogue. In a stat that makes our heads spin, the script is even longer than the entirety of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy. Wow.

So far, Batman: The Enemy Within has been a compelling tale of the Caped Crusader, featuring some brave portrayals of classic DC characters that shows there’s still lots of room for original Batman stories. It’ll be interesting to see if this ambitious approach is rewarded with a third season of the series.

For now, Batman: The Enemy Within – Same Stitch will be available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac and mobile devices on March 27th.
