Westworld, new trailer hides a secret code

The first season of Westworld firmly established itself as am enthralling, cerebral sci-fi drama. Adapted by HBO, it’s a based loosely on the 1973 movie of the same name written by Michael Crichton.

Fans have been falling over themselves in anticipation of the second season since the last episode aired in December 2016. Has it really been that long? Now there’s a firm date for the second season premiere of 22nd April…and a new trailer dropped during the Super Bowl.

At 33 seconds into the trailer, there are white bars at the top of the screen, which “is binary and decodes to 52.89.126.34 which leads to Delos Destinations dot com” as one Reddit user found. Now, there’s a lot to do on the website, but one of the biggest discoveries so far is a slideshow that advertises the six Delos parks that are either active or in development. While they don’t give details about these other parks, one of them is called “S World,” which is likely the Samurai World that characters discovered at the end of season one.

While the other parks are under construction, show creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have hinted that they may include Medieval World and Roman World, which were also part of the original movie.

There’s also a page that provides an introduction to a new character James Delos, who founded the questionable company.

It provides an indication of how massive this company is, as Delos Destinations is only a small wing of a bigger operation. Assuming these six enormous parks with highly advanced technology – that some fans speculate might be on Mars – are only one small part of a corporation, it could hint at even more serious corporate intrigue. There’s also some traditional Silicon Valley jargon in the text, which hints at more themes in the upcoming season:

We continue to believe in our Delos Destinations arm because we also understand that you are more than the sum of your daily routine. We’ve used our position at the forefront of biological engineering to print and code dream worlds that you can touch and feel. A place where you can escape yourself to know yourself. A freedom that exists only in your wildest dreams…and our parks.

Granted these aren’t huge spoilers, but it’s nice to see HBO releasing a little viral marketing to whet our appetites for season two.
