Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet, the latest video game spin-off from the hugely successful anime franchise, is out today on the PS4, XBOX One and Steam. Published by Bandai Namco, the new title is an RPG-style third person shooter set in the virtual world of Gun Gale Online.

As befits both its subtitle and setting, unlike previous Sword Art Online video games Fatal Bullet places heavy emphasis on gun-based combat – although you’re also able to wield a photon sword for when enemies get up close and personal.

Fatal Bullet also changes things up by not having Kirito as its protagonist – while SAO’s hero and his chums are still major characters in the story, the player takes on the role of a new, well, player shooting their way through the post-apocalypse world of the Gun Gale Online virtual reality MMO. Yeah, it is all a bit meta…
