Chris Galegar, co-host and producer of the bi-weekly cinema podcast War Starts at Midnight, has taken it upon himself to recut the Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer to the awesome 1994 hit “Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys and the result is a highly amusing and somewhat improved version of the existing teaser.

Yeah…this is just so much better…

There have been other fan re-edits using this epic track, Rogue One for example. But…in all honestly, they haven’t been as good as this. The editing is excellent, from the beginning build up and whine of an engine powering up, to Lando’s look of horror that’s perfectly in synch with the track’s “Wooooooaaaaaah” bit. It rocks.

Plus of course this track was used in JJ Abrams’ dreadful 2009 Star Trek reboot. The original video, if you remember, was also pretty cool. It was directed by Spike Jonz and played extensively on MTV back in the day. It was a homage to – and parody of – 1970s crime drama shows like Hawaii Five-O, The Streets of San Francisco and Starsky and Hutch. The video took the form of the opening credits of a fictional 70s-style police show called Sabotage, with the band members featuring as the show’s stars. Maybe time to go back and rewatch it.
