SEGA and Paramount Pictures to produce Sonic the Hedgehog movie

Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be spinning onto cinema screens in 2019, SEGA and Paramount Pictures have announced.

After a run of video games of meandering quality and a couple of excellent cartoon series, the feature film will mark the multiplex debut for the spiny blue mascot, mixing live-action and CG animation elements to bring him to life.

Perhaps the biggest name attached to the project so far is Deadpool director, Tim Miller, who will be taking on an executive producer role. We can’t imagine Sonic swearing and flinging swords all over the place, but who knows! Neal H. Moritz, known for the Fast and Furious series, comes on as a producer. Jeff Fowler will take the seat in the director’s chair.

That’s about all we know of the film right now, though we’re sure the likes of Tails, Knuckles and Dr Eggman (or Dr Robotnik to give him his correct name) will make an appearance too.

There’s still more than enough time for new information to trickle out, as the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is scheduled for release in the US on November 15th, 2019. An international release will follow shortly after.
