Nintendo has confirmed the development of a new Mario movie is underway.

In a tweet earlier today, the home of the moustachioed plumber announced that a Mario movie is in the works with assistance from Illumination, the studio who brought us Despicable Me and Minions.

Chris Meledandri from Illumination and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto are both listed as producers on the project.

That’s about all they’ve been willing to spill at this stage, so we have no idea when the film will be out or who we can expect to see in the starring role. Surely, Charles Martinet is going to be everyone’s first choice, though, considering he’s been the voice actor for Mario since the early ’90s.

At the end of last year, Nintendo released the phenomenal Super Mario Odyssey, a game we called an ‘absolute joy’ in our review.
