Anime fantasy film Mary and the Witch’s Flower is to get a subtitle-only preview screening at selected UK cinemas on 10 April ahead of its wider theatrical launch this May.
Licensed for UK release by Altitude Films, Mary and the Witch’s Flower is the first feature film from Studio Ponoc, founded by former Studio Ghibli lead producer Yoshiaki Nishimura in 2015. Directed by fellow Ghibli alum Hiromasa Yonebayashi (The Secret World of Arrietty, When Marnie Was There), the movie is adapted from 1971 children’s novel The Little Broomstick by British author Mary Stewart.
Released in Japan last July and Stateside in January, Mary and the Witch’s Flower tells the story of bored 12-year-old Mary, who stumbles upon a mysterious glowing flower and a flying broom that whisks her off above the clouds to Endor College for witches. Tickets for the film’s one-day-only preview screening are available here.
