After the original YumeNikki recently popped up on Steam, AGM Playism has now announced that a follow-up to the nightmarish indie sensation named YumeNikki Dream Diary will be released on February 23rd.

Back in 2004, YumeNikki sent players on a disturbing trip through the dreams of sheltered adolescent Madotsuki. This dream world played host to an assortment of surreal visions and horrors that were a struggle to piece together, making for a genuinely unsettling and provocative experience.

The game quickly gained a cult following and its creator – known only as Kikiyama – gained a mysterious reputation too.

Now, YumeNikki Dream Diary aims to combine influences from the original game and the evolving landscape of indie games to create a “wholly unique” adventure game. A new development team has worked on the project, although Kikiyama has served as a supervisor and collaborator on the game too.

If you like your games coated in the abstract and bizarre, and are willing to delve into the most experimental areas of gaming, then YumeNikki Dream Diary is one to check out.

YumeNikki Dream Diary will be released for PC on February 23rd for $19.99. The original is available to download now for free.
