If you’re looking to overdose on more 1980s nostalgia then you’ll want to check out the first trailer for Summer of 84, released by Gunpowder & Sky ahead of its screening at the Sundance Film Festival.

It’s the summer of 1984, the perfect time for teens to be enjoying themselves, only the local news is reporting on the Cape May Killer and a spate of children are going missing. Davey Armstrong convinces his friends to investigate, only their findings lead them to believe that the serial killer on the loose might be their neighbour, who also happens to be a police officer.

The trailer has an obvious Stranger Things and It vibe, as well as shades of actual 80s movies, such as The Goonies, The Monster Squad and Fright Night.

The film comes from directing trio RKSS (Anouk Whissell, François Simard and Yoann-Karl Whissell – responsible for Turbo Kid), who revealed that they started work on the film back in 2015, before the resurgence of 1980s nostalgia in popular culture. Written by Matt Leslie and Stephen J. Smith it stars Graham Verchere, Judah Lewis, Caleb Emery, Cory Gruter-Andrew, Tiera Skovbye and Rich Sommer.

Summer of 84 premieres at the Sundance Film Festival later this month.
