Last week, the world welcomed Clint Barton to a new series and it’s clear Marvel under-estimated its popularity. Consequently, Marvel has announced that Old Man Hawkeye #1 will return to comic shops for a second printing.
Set 45 years in the future and five years before the events of Old Man Logan, the 12-issue run of Old Man Hawkeye follows the aging archer on his quest to avenge his fallen teammates. In this timeline, the villains have complete control of the United States and most of the heroes are either dead or in hiding. That’s actually a major part of this story, as Hawkeye attempts to avenge his fallen comrades before he goes completely blind.
You may recall that the epic Logan (2017) was based loosely on Mark Millar’s graphic novel Old Man Logan, together with a couple of other X-men storylines. Millar (who incidentally has been awarded an MBE for his contributions to film and comics) has given the world some of the very best comic books in existence, including time spent on 2000AD, Superman: Red Son, Kick-Ass and Swamp Thing to name just a few.
Written by Ethan Sacks and illustrated by Marco Checchetto, the new title is strong, intense and gritty – everything that it should be. It’s been welcomed by critics, saying it’s a “tremendous read” and “definitely worth picking up”.
Issue #2 is on sale February 14th, priced $3.99 and reprints of issue #1 will be available later in February.
