Issue 70 of MyM magazine is out now, featuring Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Ming-na Wen, Studio Ghibli-inspired video game Forgotten Anne, director Takashi Miike and an indispensable guide to Dalek creator Terry Nation!

Hiya!

There’s a distinctly Asian flavour to this month’s MyM magazine, as we delve deep into the worlds of video games, anime and film. Our gorgeous cover betrays the love of Studio Ghibli that Forgotten Anne’s video game designers harbour (see page 32), so no doubt they’ll be as glad as we are to see Hayao Miyazaki’s Boro the Caterpillar (page eight) finally popping up in March.

We also discuss all things Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in an exclusive chat with Asian American Ming-na Wen (see page 74). The self-professed nerd loved our idea for a quirky, clumsy, scaredy-cat version of her character, so you have us to thank should ‘Belinda’ May eventually appear in Marvel’s TV series!

Elsewhere, Korean director Kang Yoon-sung discusses his electrifying action debut The Outlaws (page 60), as cult Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike talks about Blade of the Immortal – his hundredth movie (count ’em, 100! Miike didn’t, someone had to tell him!).

Meanwhile, serial studio founder and legendary anime producer Masao Maruyama (Death Note, In This Corner of the World) talks about the host of top directors he’s worked with (page 48). We also delve into Studio Trigger’s fan favourite series Little Witch Academia with Yoh Yoshinari (page 58), to uncover the British influences on the Netflix show about a trio of wannabe witches.

Even with all those Asian influences, we still manage to fly the flag for the Brits this issue. Scottish actor and voice over artist Graham McTavish (page 82), currently playing the Saint of Killers in AMC’s Preacher, picks his favourite media. The 40th anniversary of Blake’s 7’s is also the perfect excuse to look at the work of Terry Nation (page 62), who invented the Daleks and Survivors, and wrote for numerous shows including – believe it or not – MacGyver!

Until next issue, zài jiàn.
