It was announced in December 2017 that we could expect an anime series based on Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy, the spin-off game with Professor Layton’s daughter, Katrielle. The series is titled Layton’s Mystery Detective Agency: Katrielle’s Mystery Files, and it has been reported on Natalie that the official website has been updated with some of the cast, a new visual image and when it is expected to air.

The series has Katrielle running the Layton Detective Agency. Initially looking for her missing father, she finds herself solving mysteries in London along with her assistant Noah and her dog Sherl.

The episodes will be directed by Susumu Mitsunaka (writer and director of Haikyuu!!) at animation studio LIDENFILMS. The voice cast from the game will not be involved in the anime. It was already revealed that Katrielle will be voiced by Kana Hanazawa. Joining her will be Jurota Kosugi voicing Sherl, Kyosuke Ikeda voicing Noah (Ernest) and Yohei Tadano voicing Darjeeling Aspoirot (Ercule Hastings). Actor and singer Tsubasa Imai (of Tackey & Tsubasa) will guest on the first episode as Simon Wright, Katrielle’s first client who turns to her for help after his wife and daughters go missing.

Layton’s Mystery Detective Agency: Katrielle’s Mystery Files is expected to air in Japan in April 2018, every Sunday on Fuji TV.
